Drying & Mixing
Before rock aggregate is mixed with other ingredients to make HMA, it is thoroughly dried. The drying and mixing process can be accomplished with one piece of equipment or the functions can be separated. Mixing can take place in a continuous process or in a batch process. Astec supplies a complete line of high-performance drying and mixing equipment to fill the varying needs of producers worldwide. Astec also provides pugmill type mixers which premix additives with rock aggregate. |

Emission Control
Astec designs equipment to control the emissions that can be created in the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) production process. Baghouses and cyclones capture the dust from the drying process so it can be fed back int th mix. Blue smokesystems route the haze that can escape at mix transfer points back to the burner to be incinerated, and sound suppressors minimize the sound level emitted by running machinery. This equipment lets producers continue to compete in an age of heightened environmental awareness and increased regulations. |

Storage & Loadout
After Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) has been produced it is either stored for sale at a later time or immediately surged through bins into waiting trucks. Weight of HMA truck loads is determined by either low profile truck scales or through load cells on the surge bins themselves. Astecs pioneering efforts in HMA storage silo technology changed the way producers operate. As the first true storage system, these silos brought the economies of long production runs to the HMA industry. |

Facility Controls
Astec provides the software and hardware required to control and manage Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) facilities and constantly evolves better and simpler systems. Astecs own programs run through Microsoft Windows and efficiently control all material flows, processes, weighing and ticketing of Hot Mix Asphalt continuous or batch facilities. These controls can be supplied as retrofits for existing installations or as complete systems in a fully equipped control house. |

Material Processing
Astec offers processing equipment to prepare additives for incorporation in the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA). Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), roofing shingles, and fiber additives are crushed or shredded to the specified size by this machinery. The use of recycled products can represent a significant material cost saving to producers. The use of fibers as an HMA additive, while less common in the US, is increasing in Europe. |

Soil Remediation
Astec engineers have applied their knowledge of material feed systems, screens, conveyors and baghouses in the creation of low temperature thermal desorption facilities. Our extensive experience with drum design and technology provides the know-how to produce processing chambers that operate cleanly and efficiently. These plants process oil contaminated soils and free it completely of all harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds). |
