04/05/06: Astec Expected to Double Burner Production
Astec begins construction on a state-of-the art new burner facility designed around lean manufacturing principles. By incorporating lean manufacturing principles, the new facility is expected to reduce costs while improving productivity and quality. Construction on the 9752 sq. ft. facility is expected to be complete in late summer 2006.
The new burner shop integrates all operations for burner production into one self-sufficient shop. In this new shop burners will move from prep to assembly cells to painting with minimal time loss. Keeping all operations in one facility helps improve productivity and reduce costs by cutting wasted steps and unnecessary man-hours. Astec expects to be able to double burner production when manufacturing begins in the new facility.
Lean manufacturing refers to a collection of manufacturing methods focused on eliminating waste, simplifying procedures and speeding up production to deliver quality products at the lowest cost to the consumer.
