Chattanooga based, Astec Inc's innovative 1/8 scale replica of an actual Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) plant, built for exhibit at the 2005 CONEXPO-CON/AGG, won Exhibitor Magazine's prestigious All-Star Award.
The replica allowed Astec Inc. to showcase an entire HMA facility in exact detail down to the padlocks on the control room doors, while saving significant costs over previous year's exhibits. The innovative, scaled-down facility was a hit at the show, capturing the attention of the thousands of asphalt, highway and maintenance industry professionals in attendance.
Astec's advertising department, headed by Paul Shelton, designed the replica. A team of ten handpicked Astec employees worked in secret to construct it. Team members included; Eddie Carson, Terry Abercrombie, Grady Reel, Tony Gilliam, Charlie Mooney, Roy Clayton, Rick Meadows, Randy Kennemore, Wayne Pressnell, and Jim Gilliam.
Held every three years, CONEXPO-CON/AGG features the latest equipment, product innovations and technological advances of the construction, construction materials and power transmission industries. More than 124,300 industry professionals from around the world attended CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2005 in Las Vegas, USA during its five-day run March 15-19, 2005.
